Nashville Humane is committed to promoting humane education, controlling pet overpopulation and finding responsible homes for the homeless and adoptable pet community in Nashville and throughout Tennessee. NHA has been voted “Best Shelter” and “Favorite Not-For-Profit” year over year, and is proud to have a save rate of 99%.
The adoption process at NHA is friendly, educational and rewarding! Animals come to us looking for a forever home, and we make certain to give them their best shot. All animals in our Adoption Program, while at NHA, receive spay/neuter surgery, are current on their vaccinations, are microchipped, and receive high-quality veterinary care from our team of full-time board-certified veterinary staff. And of course, lots of love! Now, it’s your turn to love them forever. Noticing that we use the word “forever” a lot? Well, it is really important to us that our pets find a permanent home! Therefore, adoption applicants are carefully screened and must meet adoption requirements prior to taking your new furry friend home. Now here comes the hard part - visit with our wonderful cats and dogs and try to pick just one! NHA Pet Service Representatives are available to provide advice on selecting the best match for you and will schedule a Meet & Greet between family members (including those with four-legs) and your prospective pet to help you determine which animal will best accept your lifestyle. After reviewing a pet, you can complete an online application located on each pet’s adoption information page. PLEASE NOTE: completing an application does NOT reserve a pet for you. It simply allows you to save time when you come to the shelter to complete your adoption. We do not allow online holds or reservations of pets.

We aim to reduce the number of healthy animals euthanized annually; we aim for more animals to be fixed than aren't fixed in our Middle Tennessee community; we aim for all neglected, abused, and abandoned companion animals to have a warm bed, a full bowl, and a helping hand at the end of every day.

Our mission is to save dogs from high-kill shelters where they would otherwise be euthanized. The rescued dogs are fully vetted and spayed or neutered, then taken to a foster home where they are treated like family. Fostering allows our team time to get to know the dog’s personality and temperament so we can match the dog with the right family. We then get to know the potential adoptive family t
