Bonaparte's Retreat Dog Rescue - Nashville Pet Shelter

Bonaparte's Retreat Dog Rescue

Founded in 2004 by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Emmylou Harris, Bonaparte's Retreat is named for one of Harris's own beloved dogs. Her constant companion for 10 years on the road, Harris says, "Once you have the experience of having a dog on the road with you, you don't realize how lonely you've been without one." When Bonaparte died suddenly, Harris was heartbroken, but her personal loss became the genesis of something remarkable. To honor the memory of her dear companion, Harris established Bonaparte's Retreat with the goal of rescuing shelter dogs and adopting them into forever homes. To this day, Bonaparte's Retreat continues to save dogs most in need at Metro Nashville Animal Care and Control and at municipal shelters in surrounding counties. A small foster-based, 501(c)3 nonprofit dog rescue organization, Bonaparte's Retreat focuses on the neglected and forgotten - senior dogs, large dogs, or dogs in need of imminent medical care or surgery. Our mission is to love and care for these wonderful animals for as long as it takes to find their forever homes.

We aim to reduce the number of healthy animals euthanized annually; we aim for more animals to be fixed than aren't fixed in our Middle Tennessee community; we aim for all neglected, abused, and abandoned companion animals to have a warm bed, a full bowl, and a helping hand at the end of every day.

Our mission is to save dogs from high-kill shelters where they would otherwise be euthanized. The rescued dogs are fully vetted and spayed or neutered, then taken to a foster home where they are treated like family.
