Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue - New Richmond Pet Shelter

Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue

Who is Payton's Place / Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue? Payton's Place / Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer based organization, dedicated to placing homeless Doberman Pinschers into new and loving homes. We rely solely on donations to continue and expand our work. Every dollar contributed goes directly to the rescue, care, and placement of the dogs, such as operating expenses, care of the dogs, shelter fees, veterinary care and medications, and equipment. No one at Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue receives a salary; we have no paid employees or board members. Our current volunteers are all extremely committed people who, from the goodness in their hearts and for the love of this magnificent breed, generously give of their time, money and devotion. These volunteers work full time jobs, have families and dogs of their own, as well as volunteering for the Rescue. What we do Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue is committed to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of Dobermans in need. We also help large breed dogs in danger of euthanization in kill shelters find safe haven and cover medical care and pledge aid to attract responsible rescue intervention. Our best practices place these Dobermans into responsible, caring, and permanent homes. We do not treat them like inventory, we are not looking for a quick turnover time. We know all our efforts are for one thing only; an appropriate, loving forever home. Before placement in a new home, each dog has been checked by a veterinarian with a caring volunteer present to ensure we understand the vets exam findings and also to share our first hand knowledge of any symptoms. They get updated on vaccinations, checked for heartworms, spayed/neutered, wormed, and micro-chipped. We also evaluate, as best as possible, each dog for behavior and temperament. After placement, we are always available to the adoptive family, should they need any assistance. And always will be. If you are thinking of getting a new friend, please consider adopting a rescue dog.

Adoption Process

The adoption process involves several steps. 1. You must first complete the adoption application. See our website. 2. We will contact your veterinarian references. If these are satisfactory, a volunteer will contact you to make an appointment to visit your home and do a home check. You must have a history of pets being on heartworm preventative, no exceptions. 3.The purpose of the home check is to see the environment where the dog will live. This is also a good time for the adoptive family to discuss any concerns or questions they may have with the SWODR representative. 4. If it is determined that you would be a good candidate to adopt a Doberman from Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue, you will be invited to make an appointment to come out to meet and spend time with the dog or dogs that seem to be a strong match. If you find that special dog that you truly want to be a permanent member of your family, and per SWODR's approval, you will then finalize the adoption process by completing the adoption contract. You can then take your new dog home! Our adoption fee schedule determined is by age: Puppies up to 1 year of age $400.00 1 year through 4 years: $350.00 5 years through 7 years: $250.00 8 years and up, typically: $150.00
