Rattie Tattie Rescue - Amelia Pet Shelter

Rattie Tattie Rescue

Rattie Tattie Rescue is located in Amelia, OH near Cincinnati. We have been doing rat rescue for over 15 years and have placed over a thousand rats into their loving forever homes in Ohio and several surrounding states. We are a 501c3 Ohio Non-profit organization. Rattie Tattie Rescue receives no profit from running the rescue. This is something we do purely for the love of rats and we dedicate a lot of time and money to ensure that the rats that come here are cared for and find their forever homes. We do not breed rats, nor do we support the breeding of any animal. There are far too many animals dying daily because there are not enough homes. All of the rats that come to us are surrendered by owner or come from emergency situations such as hoarding cases, shelters not equipped to care for rats or other crises. All new rats go into a quarantine home for a minimum of 2-3 weeks to make sure they have no illnesses that can be spread to any other rat. We do not adopt our rats out for research or to be used as breeders, feeders or in classroom pets. All of our rats are pets only and we screen all of our potential homes and require the adoption questionnaire to be filled out completely. Our mission is to promote domestic rats as pets. To make sure the rats that come to our rescue find their perfect homes, but until then to be safe, loved and cared for. To educate the public to let everyone know that rats make great pets.

Adoption Process

All potential adopters must read through these policies and our adoption contracts in order to understand what is expected of the adopter before and after the adoption of our rats. By signing the adoption contract upon pick up of your rats, you are agreeing to all stipulations located here and in the contract. Rattie Tattie Rescue retains all ownership rights of rats until both the rescue and the adopter have signed the contract. Rats are to go to loving homes and not to be used as breeders, research or feeders or unattended classroom pets. We reserve the right to decline any adoption application for any reason. If you currently do not own rats, we will only adopt out in pairs or more, as rats are social creatures and need companions. If you are adopting a friend for your current rat(s), we will gladly adopt out singles. Adoption fees are as follows: Single Rat $15, Rat Pair $20, Trio $25, Quad $30; Mice $5, Pair $10; Gerbils $10, Pair $15; Single Guinea Pig $25, Piggie Pair $40; Bunnies $35. The adoption fee is for several reasons, including but not limited to: ensuring that applicants are serious about the pet adoption, helping with the cost of care for our rats, and ensuring that our rats will not be used as feeders. We require the adoption application to be filled out honestly and completely. If ANY information is found to be false BEFORE or AFTER adoption, the adoption contract is void. If you do not own your home and are renting you must provide proof from your landlord that rats are permitted as pets in your home. We require weekly updates of your new ratties for the first month. If you move, change phone numbers, email addresses, etc., you must let us know so we have a means of contacting you for updates in the future. If you must give up your rats in the future, or can no longer care for them, they must be returned to us. We must approve of any other home before the rats are placed with any other person. If you have any questions regarding our policies, please contact us directly.
