New England Humane Society - Cumberland Pet Shelter

New England Humane Society

Mission: RESCUE ~ HEAL ~ ADOPT ~ EDUCATE. Rescue - We attempt to save animals who are in high-kill shelters and are on the verge of being euthanized due to pet over population. We also rescue those pets that can no longer be cared for by their owners. Heal - Our organization is focused on the well-being of all animals. We assist in rehabilitating and the healing of the abused or neglected animals. Once the animal is healthy, in addition to food, shelter and medical treatment, they receive nurturing care. It is imperative that we promote the maximum of human contact and quality of life for each of our rescued animals. Adopt - We make every effort to find a compatible “forever home” for each animal in our care. The importance of placing an animal in the “right” home cannot be overstated – not only for the animal but also for the adopter. Each animal is tested with people and other animals to understand their temperament. We remain in contact with our adopters and remain a constant support throughout their journey. Educate - It is essential to increase public awareness of domestic animal over-population issues and to solicit their help in promoting responsible pet ownership. The Hotel aspires to include school programs that will educate on the importance of animal protection programs, spay and neuter and ways that they can volunteer or help in their community. We believe one of the most effective ways to create a “no-kill nation” is to educate our youth. At the Hotel, we are not only saving animals but we are changing the face of animal welfare. Through our example and leadership, we demonstrate compassion and respect for all living creatures: To treat all living things as we ourselves would like to be treated.
