The Providence Animal Rescue League (PARL) is a private, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1913. PARL serves communities throughout Rhode Island and beyond. Our mission is to provide for the rescue and relief of suffering and homeless animals, and to perform charitable or benevolent acts for the welfare of animals. PARL's mission is accomplished by providing appropriate shelter and care for animals in need, seeking permanent homes for adoptable animals, reducing pet overpopulation through affordable spay/neuter services, and providing humane education programming throughout the community. We receive no federal or state funding and rely solely on donations from generous individuals, businesses, and foundations to support our programs and services.
The first step is to meet with an adoption specialist so they can assist you in finding the best match for you. Browsing is always encouraged, however - either via website, facebook, petfinder, or visiting the adoption center. Our goal is to assist you in finding your best match for a lifelong companion. When you arrive, we will direct you to PARL’s cats, small animals or dogs (depending on your preference.) We encourage you to spend time petting our cats and small animals, and meeting our dogs outside with an adoption counselor. Please ask questions - we're here to help! At our shelter our adoptable animals can change daily. If you don't find what you are looking for the first time, please come see us again! Chances are that we will have some new furry friends available for adoption, and one of them might be purr-fect for you! We try to keep an open and easy process for our adopters. Although we do not require documentation of landlord approval; we do recommend double checking with your landlord - or homeowner’s insurance - about any possible restrictions they may have. It is also a good idea to make sure everyone in your family is on the same page about what they are looking for in your next pet!
