The Fairhope Cat Coalition has its beginning with concerned citizens feeding cats and kittens that were abandoned in several public areas in Fairhope. In the year 2000, several citizens began to formalize the feeding program to ensure the cats were feed on a regular basis. In conjunction with the Baldwin County Humane Society and local area veterinarians, the group began a program to humanely trap the cats for testing, vaccinations and neutering model on one in other parts of the county. When the City of Fairhope formally recognized the feral cat colony at a Fairhope city park in October 2000, the local feral cat feeders formally organized to become the Fairhope Cat Coalition.
