East County Animal Rescue - El Cajon Pet Shelter

East County Animal Rescue

Established in 2002, East County Animal Rescue is a grassroots effort of volunteers who are passionate about helping animals in need within the San Diego community. Many of our volunteers have dedicated their lives to helping animals. As the only rescue in the area executing Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), we are most often found out on the streets of the community going to great lengths to spay and neuter animals. Often, we are the organization that steps in when the others can't or won't.

Adoption Process

The adoption process is fairly simple. When you see a kitty you are interested in on our site or Facebook page under "Available for Adoption" album, just fill out an adoption application online. You will be contacted by an adoption counselor within 2-3 days for an interview. Once you are approved arrangements will be made to meet/adopt the kitty. The application does not bind you to a kitty or to the one you are initially interested in. We like to make perfect matches for both cat and adopter. The process is much quicker on our adoption event days (Saturday from 12-4). There you can meet a kitty, apply, be interviewed and take kitty home all on the same day. As a minimum, all cats have been spayed or neutered, tested for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline aids (FIV), are up-to-date on vaccinations, dewormed and treated for fleas. The adoption fee covers this so your initial veterinary expenses have been taken care of. Our average adoption fee is $150, but can be a little higher or a little lower depending on the cat. Your adoption fee is a donation and you are welcome to give more to help us save more cats.
