Adoption Process

STEP 1. The first step is to fill out our adoption application. We will review your application once we receive it. If we think you are a good fit for the animal you are interested in we will contact you within 72 hours. If you do not hear from us, then we did not think you were the right fit for this particular animal or we had multiple applications where the one before yours was a better fit. We try to give priority to applications in the order we receive them (as long as it is the right fit). If your application is approved you will move on to step two. STEP 2. The second step is a visit with the animal you are interested in adopting. You will be asked to drive to the animal's foster home to meet him/her and these can be located within Chicago or the surrounding suburbs. Everyone living in the home must be present for this initial visit - including other animals in the home. During this visit, you will get a chance to interact with the animal and learn more about his/her personality. We will also get a chance to meet you in person and learn more about you. STEP 3. The third and final step is a home visit. During the home visit, a volunteer will bring the animal to your home. We will look around your home to make sure you are properly prepared for your new addition. If another dog is involved in the adoption this allows us to have the two dogs meet on the current dogs territory. If all goes well during the home check, we finalize the adoption and leave your new addition with you! This may seem like a long process, but it is the best way for us to ensure our animals go to loving homes.
