Adoption Process

Completing an online application request is the first step in the adoption process. The placement process includes Personal and Vet Reference checks, and a home visit. The home visit may include bringing the foster dog to interact with you, your family, and any other pets. Your responses and your home situation will be evaluated in relation to those of other applicants and will take into consideration the foster dog's needs in a forever home. If you are approved, there will be an adoption agreement that you will sign at the time ownership is transferred and you will pay an adoption fee. In order to adopt a UYR foster dog, you must be over the age of 25 and financially able to provide for a dog's vetting and care. Adoption fees for our foster dogs are set based on the age, health, conformity to breed standard, and behavior/needs of the dog. Adoption fees typically range between $100-$700 and are not negotiable; the adoption fee rarely covers the costs of vetting and rehabilitating the foster dog. Adoption fees are not considered donations and therefore are not tax deductible.
