Toledo Area Humane Society - Maumee Pet Shelter

We care for nearly 5,000 animals each year through our life-saving programs and services. The Toledo Humane Society is the state’s oldest animal welfare organization, serving the Toledo area since 1884. We do not receive government or national humane society funding and are not affiliated with the United Way. The Toledo Humane Society investigates over 2,000 animal cruelty reports every year.

Adoption Process

Animals come to the Toledo Humane Society in one of three ways: our cruelty department, owner surrender, or transferred from another agency. The day of your visit, you will meet with one of the adoption counselors to go over the adoption form, your new pet’s medical history, and go over any questions you may have. To save time, we encourage interested adopters to print, fill-out, and bring their completed adoption form provided below with them. Each animal receives a medical exam, age-appropriate vaccines, a microchip, and spay/neuter surgery if necessary before they are available for adoption. After completing your adoption, you’ll take your first family photo with your new addition before taking your new pet home!
