Tennessee Valley Golden Retriever Rescue - Knoxville Pet Shelter

Tennessee Valley Golden Retriever Rescue

TVGRR is a non-profit organization (501c3) which relies totally on donations from adopters, friends, family, and all Golden lovers. Each year TVGRR places approximately 150 Goldens and Golden Mixes in forever homes; which equates to approximately 2,700 dogs rescued since 1997. When TVGRR receives a Golden/Golden Mixes, whether received by owner release or acquired by a shelter, they are evaluated for medical needs, checked for heart and intestinal parasites, spayed/neutered, current on all required vaccinations, micro-chipped, and given heartworm and flea preventatives. We strive to have each Golden Retriever/Mix evaluated in a foster home, discovering the temperament and behavior of the dog.

Adoption Process

If you are interested in adopting or fostering one of our rescues please fill out the TVGRR Adoption Application online. The application fee is $25 and can be paid via PayPal (no account required) or a check (sent to our PO Box). Both foster and adoptive families must go through the same approval process. This entails a vet check (if you have a vet) and a home visit. If you are out of the East TN area, we try to work with other local rescues to complete the home visit. We do not adopt to residents of Hawaii or out of the United States. Once we receive the application and your application fee and complete the vet check, an applications coordinator will be in touch with you either by phone or email (please make sure both are correct!). Please allow up to 3-5 days for the coordinator to contact you as we are all volunteers with full-time jobs. Rescue is our hobby because we love the dogs! Every dog that is adopted is current on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, tested for heartworms, and given a general checkup. If the dog has tested positive for heartworms, TVGRR will treat the dog. We do not x-ray hips, nor do we guarantee the age of the dog, or the health status. Many of the dogs we rescue are strays; consequently, we do not have a history for the dog. Once you adopt a dog, we have a 7-day return policy and your adoption fee will be refunded if you decide this is not the right dog for you. To return the dog you must contact your applications coordinator. About 2-3 months after adoption, one of our volunteers will contact you to make sure everything is going well. We do encourage you to stay in contact with us and let us know how your new furry friend is doing! We love pictures and happy endings!
