The mission of Suntree-Viera Pet Rescue, Inc., is foster and find permanent homes for rescues from the local high-kill shelters. Specifically, we take in animals from the euthanasia lines and foster them in private homes indefinitely until they are adopted. SVPR advocates the spaying and neutering of all domestic dogs and cats as well as feral cats - in accordance with federal law. Furthermore, we educate the public on their responsibility for their pets' medical and emotional care.
Please allow 5-7 business days for your application to be completely processed by one of our adoption counselors. If the animals are still listed on our website they are still available. If an animal has an adoption pending it will be listed as Pending. Once adopted, the animal will no longer be active but will appear under "Successes". The application process will proceed more quickly if you give us a current email address. The adoption of a companion animal is not a trivial matter. We take our work very seriously, and we want to be certain our animals are placed in a loving, caring environment. While we cannot guarantee the health of our animals they have been examined by a veterinarian, received age appropriate core vaccinations, spayed/neutered, have received appropriate testing (i.e. feline leukemia/FIV for cats and heartworm for dogs) and microchipped. Our animals also have been cared for in a home environment, are socialized and used to being in a home and around people-as opposed to a typical shelter animal, who has been living in a cage or kennel, may be stressed or become sick from their environment, lacks socialization and possibly interaction skills. We take care of these animals as though they were our own. Some of them have lived with us for quite some time; some, especially small, motherless kittens and puppies, we have hand-raised, bottle fed and some we have literally saved from near death illness or life-threatening situations. Naturally we are attached to them and, as a result, we want to be sure they are going to a good home. Caring for an animal costs money and adoption fees are our main support-we provide all food, bedding, litter, medical care, etc. Thus we do charge a donation fee for the adoption of our animals. Our fees are: $85 and up for a cat, $150-350 for a puppy or dog, $60 for a rabbit, Small Donation for rodents. Applying for adoption does not necessarily guarantee that you will be approved. We have requirements that all prospective "parents" must meet: A drivers license or some form of photo identification with your current address; Residency-do you own your home or do you rent it? If you own your home, in most cases we are able to verify this online with the courthouse; however if you have recently purchased your home you may need to provide a copy of your settlement statement or your mortgage coupon since recent purchases do not show up instantly in public records. You may mail it to us at P.O. Box 410123-0123/ Melbourne, FL 32941. If you are not the owner of the property, then we need to verify with the owners of the property that the animal will be allowed. If you live in an apartment, we need to see a copy of your lease stating that you are allowed to have pets, or speak with the landlord. What other animals are currently living in the household, and what is their disposition? We need to be sure that the animal you are adopting will get along with the other "members" of your household. We need your veterinarian’s name and contact information of not only your current animal(s) but your previous animals as well so we can obtain a reference. Are your existing animals up to date on vaccines and have they been spayed and neutered? We cannot consider you as prospective adopters if your existing animals do not meet these standards-PLUS it's a good idea for the health and well-being of your own animals as well. Once approved and once you've adopted an animal from us, we may require a post-adoption home visitation to check on the well-being of the animal.
