Southern Hearts Rescue answers calls from all over the state of Arkansas to rescue lost or abandoned animals, and sometimes we receive calls for help from other states. Southern Hearts Rescue helps with search and rescue of injured animals and relocates nuisance animals using humane traps. The Rescue is its own facility of 1200 square feet, both heated and cooled, with several fenced areas outside for them to get adequate exercise. We are available by phone 24/7 and if we do not have space available, we work with other local rescues to make sure the animals are taken care of. Any animal that is brought into the rescue immediately goes into quarantine. We attempt to locate the owner by scanning for a chip and posting the animal as found on many social media sites. If no owner is found after one week, then we begin the vetting process. The vetting process involves vaccinating, worming, testing for heartworm and other illnesses, and having the animal spayed or neutered. The rescue pays for all this work. We also provide flea & tick and heartworm prevention before making the animal available for adoption, as well as grooming. All animals are tested in a variety of situations to determine their adoptability: they are tested with other animals of all sizes and their ability to interact with children. These tests ensure that the animals will be placed in appropriate homes. We also provide free training for any adoptive person/family.
