River Edge Farm Horse Rescue is a 501c(3) public charity owned and operated by Jane McAllister and Ken McAllister who have been rehabilitating horses for many years. We have 63 beautiful acres in Middle Tennessee where horses of all breeds and ages are taken in and cared for. Due to the drought in 2007 and downturn in the economy, the number of horses at the rescue has greatly increased causing increased needs for funds and donations. Tax deductible donations are always welcomed and greatly appreciated. We strive to provide the best care possible for every horse that comes to the Rescue by beginning with an individual evaluation. Each horse receives Veterinary care including dental work and vaccinations, hoof care, and a nutrition plan. Professional hoof care is donated by Ken's Farrier Service. Nutrition requirements and feeding schedules are developed initially and then adjusted as the horse progresses. In addition to the basics, some horses have special needs that require long term training in order to make them better candidates for adoption. The Rescue is also a supporter of Mustang Heritage Foundation.
Complete and submit the Adoption Contract. References are required. Adopted horses must stay with the adopter for at least one year. After that, the horse may be sold. If there are extenuating circumstances and the adopter cannot keep the horse, it must be returned to the Rescue. Adopted mares are not allowed to be bred. No horse will be adopted to be kept in a barbwire fence. There is a base adoption fee of $250, some horses will have a higher fee based on age and training. This helps with expenses, but does not begin to cover the costs of hauling, Vet fees, feed, and rehabilitation. All horses are health checked, vaccinated, wormed, feet are trimmed, and when necessary teeth are floated. Please review Adoption Contract for complete details.
