Rescue Without Borders - Monroe Township Pet Shelter

Our Motto - Every Dog Deserves a Good Home, No matter what breed or where they come from. Love knows no boundaries. We do not discriminate; we will rescue the Underdogs, be it in the U.S. or any where else. We are very proud to be a Rescue without borders. So, what does it mean to be a rescue without borders? We rescue and adopt within the U.S. irrespective of state borders and also rescue dogs from the streets of developing countries like India, Turkey, Oman, Thailand etc. Now you may be wondering what would be the reason to bring dogs from another country when there are so many homeless dogs in the U.S. shelters? Typically in India, dogs that are born on the streets are hardly ever given a chance to live as family pets, they live a pathetic life on the streets and end up dying a miserable death. In the third world countries most people cannot afford to keep a dog as a pet and those who do prefer a western breed as a status symbol, so these street dogs have no shot at a good life. Currently we are focusing our rescue efforts on two types of Under Dogs- The American Staffordshire/Pit Bull Terrier or Pit Bull mix that we pull from the local shelters in the U.S; and on the international front the dogs from the streets of India called the Pariah Dogs, IN (Indian Native) Dogs or Desi (Local) Dogs. We work hard to make people aware of the plight of homeless dogs in the local shelters and also in the third world countries. We focus our rescue efforts specifically on those dogs that are unable to survive on the streets/shelters; like orphaned pups, injured, sick or abandoned dogs. Pups born on the streets have little chance of survival where they most often get killed by vehicles or are victims of cruelty or die of hunger and malnutrition. We rescue, rehabilitate and bring them to good health and give them a chance at finding loving homes where they can live a happy, healthy and a safe life which otherwise would never be possible living on the streets. The average life span of these dogs on the street is well under eight years during which time they suffer the effects of poor nutrition, harsh weather conditions and abuse from people. However as a house pet they become happy, loving, gorgeous companion dogs where they live a healthy life of 16+ years. That is why we rescue these dogs from India to give them the opportunity to be a part of a loving family. On the streets it is the survival of the fittest so IN/Desi dogs are born to be extremely hardy, intelligent and quick learners - if they weren't they wouldn’t survive on the streets! In the past years we have successfully rescued, rehabilitated and founds homes for close to 1000 streets dogs of India throughout the Northeast. On the domestic front we prefer to rescue our own Underdogs the Pit bulls or Pit bull type dogs from local shelters and find them right homes where they will thrive as family companions. Through our rescue work we educate and spread awareness to dispel the misconception about this breed.
