At Rags to Riches Animal Rescue we strive not only to find homes for the homeless dogs but the right home for the right dog so that it is a forever home.
1. Pick a baby out (duh). 2. Fill out an application. We have everyone fill out an application first, no exceptions. Filling out an application does not put you under any obligation to adopt. We do this for two reasons, one is for the security for our fosters for when there is a meet up outside an adoption event. The other is when you do meet your potential baby and fall in love; the process goes much faster for you to take your baby home. 3. We check personal references, (No family members) so please make sure that their information is up to date (phone numbers at least, email addresses if you have them). If we cannot get a hold of your referrals, we will not be able to approve your application. We will also call your veterinarian and ask them if any pets you have had or current animals you do have that their vaccines are and were up to date. Not taking your pet to the vet for regular check-ups and their yearly vaccinations will also keep you from getting your application approved. We do know that there are extenuating circumstances, and we do look at these on a case by case basis. If you are a renter, we will call your landlord/leasing agent to make sure that you are allowed to have dogs and what, if any, breed restrictions are in place. 4. If all goes well, the foster parent will get in touch with you and set up a meet and greet. Most times, it is best and most comfortable for everyone to do the initial meet up at one of our adoption events, but we can make other arrangements if necessary. 5. Lastly would be the home check. We help you to make sure your home is the safest it can be for your new fur-kid. 6. Pay the adoption fee. 7. Live happily ever after! 8.
