PROUD (Pet Rescue for Unwanted Dog) was established in 1998 by Marilyn who has been saving dogs since 1982. It was founded on the principle she alone with others wanted to do something about the high number of homeless dogs that were dying because no one gave them a chance to find their forever home. PROUD began its operations out of a the home Marilyn and her husband and now has grown beyond that. PROUD has grown quickly, so that more and more dogs each year can be rescued and adopted out to loving forever homes. PROUD is run solely by dedicated, hard-working volunteers. PROUD Dogs are housed at the PROUD facility or in one of PROUD's foster homes. The mission of PROUD is to eliminate suffering and promote the welfare of dogs through direct action and education. PROUD is committed to encouraging the humane treatment of all animals, reducing the number of homeless animals in Kingsburg area, promoting the benefits of the human/animal bond, and supporting spaying/neutering of all animals.

We are a rescue, not a shelter. We do not kill any animals here at our rescue. In fact, we do not advocate the killing of animals and wish all shelters would adopt a "no kill" policy. Many of the animals that we rescue end up living out their days here, as some are not adoptable, which may be due to their age, medical issues, socialization issues, or inability to handle children or other
