Paws And Purrs Humane Society - Montgomery Pet Shelter

Paws And Purrs Humane Society

Paws and Purrs Humane Society is a no-kill, not-for-profit organization dedicated to finding loving, permanent homes for homeless cats and kittens. We are a small, all volunteer group providing veterinary care, socialization, and lots of TLC to our animals until they are matched with their forever guardians. We are a foster home based program, with the majority of our cats and kittens living in homes with their foster families. We have some cats housed at Petco in Oswego, where we have adoption days. Paws and Purrs will help with days old kittens, strays found outside near death, and, of course, all ages of animals who were abandoned or surrendered by their owners. Paws and Purrs sends each cat and kitten home with a information booklet covering topics of general interest to adopters. Further, we have an excellent after care program designed to insure that animals adopted from us are living happily ever after in their forever homes. We're a continuing resource for our adopters and are always available to consult on any issues the adopters would like to discuss. We adopt only to homes where the cats will not be declawed and will be kept exclusively indoors. All animals are spayed/neutered (age permitting), microchipped, inoculated and are tested for FIV and FeLV. Our pets that are available for adoption are constantly changing so please frequently check out the adoptable pets page.

Adoption Process

Paws and Purrs' adoption process includes: 1. A preliminary phone interview to discuss what the adopter is looking for in a cat/kitten. 2. The adopter's completing an application. 3. Having the adopter and the cat(s)/kitten(s) get to know each other a bit. 4. An interview with all family members present and possibly a pre-adoption home visit. 5. If everyone feels the adoption will be a good one, the adopter is asked to sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. The adoption fee covers the costs associated with spay/neuter, age appropriate inoculations, a FIV/FeLV test, any other vet care the cat/kitten may need while it is in foster care. Post-adoption, Paws and Purrs makes after care calls roughly two days, two weeks, and two months after the animal(s) go to their forever home. That provides the adopter the opportunity to discuss any questions they may have about the cat/kitten and its care. Adopters are encouraged to stay in touch with Paws and Purrs to share wonderful stories and pictures of their new family member.

The animals that were being euthanized were often viable, friendly and simply in need of somebody to help them get into a good new home. Dr. Kremer would at times
