Just Giant Rescue Inc (JGRI) is a 501(c)3 organization catering to giant breed dogs. We don’t discriminate against breed, but they must be giants such as the regal Great Dane, loyal Mastiff, and clownish Saint Bernard, to name a few.
Application - Congratulations, adding a new member to your family is an exciting adventure and we are glad you have chosen Just Giants Rescue. Our Application and Adoption Processes are outlined below: Please complete an online Adoption Application and pay the applicable fee as soon as you know your family is ready to adopt. Once we receive your completed application and fee, our volunteers will begin the approval and matching process. We do our best to keep you informed during the process; however, this can take a few weeks so it is recommended to get an application on file as soon as possible. Our application volunteers will contact your references and veterinarian where required and perform a home check. JGRI maintains all approved applications for 1 year. Please note that we do require all current resident dogs to be spayed or neutered (except for special circumstances) and up to date on vaccines. We accept applications for specific dogs and general applications. For example, if a family is looking to adopt an adult mastiff, they can indicate on the application and we will contact them when one becomes available. Most dogs come into our foster system under a medical or intake hold, this means that the dog needs medical treatment or rehabilitation time before they can be adopted. If you submit an application for a dog on hold you will not be able to choose this dog in the application drop down menu, please indicate your interest within the application when prompted. Potential adopters should keep in mind that our available dogs can get multiple applications. Volunteers and foster families work closely to help match dogs with the best homes. Once your application is approved, we can then start to determine what type of dog is best suited for your home, and which dogs we have in our care that may make a good fit in your home. We do get new foster dogs into rescue all the time, so if the dog you are initially interested in gets adopted before you get through the process, we will keep your approved application on file for 1 year. We may also recommend other dogs in our care that may make a good fit in your home. Approval & Adoption - Approval & Adoption - Hooray! The Application and Approval process is very thorough, JGRI prides itself in rehabilitating and rehoming dogs successfully with minimal returns. Once an applicant has been approved their application file is sent to the foster family for review. Our foster families work hard with their fosters and know the dog the best. They will contact the applicant for a phone interview to make sure the match is a good fit. Next, the foster family and applicant will set up a meet and greet either in person or virtually. Again, JGRI wants to make the best match possible, meeting the dog is essential and goes hand in hand with our Slow Introduction Policy. During the application and adoption process you will hear about JGRI Slow Introduction Policy. It is essential that adopters review and implement this policy, in cases where a dog is returned to JGRI the majority of the time the adopters did not follow our Slow Introduction Policy. Finally, you will get to take home your new family member. The foster family will provide you with an Adoption Agreement and all medical records. You will need to use our online donation link to pay any remaining adoption fees or bring a check to the adoption day. Please stay in contact with our volunteers in case you have in questions and to share your “happy tail.”
