Outpaws Animal Rescue - Littleton Pet Shelter

Outpaws Animal Rescue

Founded in 2013 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Denver, Colorado, OutPaws grew out of a dream to create an animal rescue organization reflecting Denver and Colorado’s young and vibrant ethos and living by the creed that there is no such thing as a bad dog or cat. We believe that our pets rescue us as much as we rescue them, no matter if they are homeless or shelter animals that have been deemed “unadoptable.” OutPaws prides ourselves on being champions of the “underdogs,” and we know that with a little patience and love, mixed with proper care and training, these animals can make wonderful, loving companions. Whether placing pets in foster homes or forever homes, our role as “matchmaker” is one we take seriously. OutPaws hopes to reach those who are lifelong pet owners as well as those who are looking for their first rescue with the goal of creating and nurturing bonds that last a lifetime. Beyond helping individual animals and families, we hope to make an impact in our community by serving as a resource for pet owners, shelters, veterinarians and other organizations focused on curbing animal homelessness. OutPaws is committed to working with Denver’s rescue, shelter and animal-loving community. OutPaws looks forward to the day when no adoptable or medically treatable animals are euthanized in the city’s shelters and when every dog and cat has a home.

Adoption Process

The adoption process begins when you complete an online Adoption Application, naming either one or a few of our Available Animals or providing a description of the type of animal you hope to adopt. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, we do not have time to respond to general inquiries about animals. Completing an application does not restrict you to a specific animal, nor does it obligate you to adopt. Once we have received your application and determined that you are a good match for the requested animal, we will contact you by email. The foster parent will then contact you to arrange a time for you to meet the animal, at which time you can decide if you would like to complete the adoption. You may be asked to visit the animal more than once before taking it home. After your initial meeting with the animal, one of our volunteers will conduct a home visit. This may occur before you take the animal home or when the animal is delivered to you. Once the adoption is approved, you will need to complete our online Adoption Contract and pay the non-refundable adoption fee. This non-tax-deductible fee assists us in continuing to save more homeless pets and may be refunded only if the animal is returned within 14 days due to a health consideration. All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up-to-date on distemper, parvo, parainfluenza and adenovirus, as well as rabies if they are over 6 months of age. If at any time after adoption, you decide you cannot keep the pet for any reason, the animal must be returned to OutPaws.
