Mutts & Moms - Pasadena Pet Shelter

Mutts & Moms

Mutts & Moms is a non-profit organization that rescues dogs from Los Angeles and Kern County shelters. This rescue was started by animal lovers and volunteers with local animal shelters, who saw all the beautiful animals that are euthanized daily and wanted to do something! Mutts & Moms rescues mixed breed dogs (mutts) and Moms with the occasional litter, taking them out of the shelters and into foster homes and boarding kennels, where they are groomed, cared for, and then adopted into loving homes.

Adoption Process

1. Complete the adoption application. Please be sure to answer all questions as thoroughly as possible. It is better to take your time than to rush! It is far better to take the application home and fax back, or to complete via the website, than to answer the questions without thinking. It is important to answer every question. We can only know what you tell us, we are not able to ascertain what you mean, or what you intend unless you tell us on the application. A thorough application helps us to know if the requested dog will be a good match for your family. These dogs are like children to us, and we will not place them hurriedly or carelessly. 2. Schedule to meet the dog. If you have dogs in your home already, it is essential that you bring your dog with you. Please contact us to make an appointment. 3. Your application will be reviewed by our adoption committee. It is unlikely that a hand written application can be reviewed on the same day it is submitted. The more information we have, the more quickly we are able to respond to your application. Average response time is from 3 to 10 days. Due to time limitations, we only call those whose application has been accepted. Please feel free to call or email if you have any questions. 4. If all parties agree to proceed with the adoption, we make a home visit. This is so that we can ensure the animal's new home is safe and free of any potential health risks. It is not our intention to pry into the private lives of people, but rather to educate when necessary. We want to know that there is ample shelter for the dog and that fences are high enough to be escape proof. There are any number of things that could pose a health risk to the dog which the potential owner(s) may not be aware. 5. The next step consists of a contractual agreement between Mutts & Moms and the dog's new family. The adopters must have supplies on hand, or reimburse us for those we provide. We will NOT leave an animal without proper equipment. You should also read the section on Getting Ready to bring your new pet home and be sure to print it out to take shopping with you so your new friend will have everything they need. 6. The final step is a tax-deductible donation. We suggest a minimum donation of $250. Look into your heart, if you are able to give more, please do. None of the dogs you see would be here today without our intervention. Mutts & Moms is supported only by individual donations and our own fundraising efforts. We receive no government funding. Our cost to rescue and place the average dog is more than $1,000. Once we have rescued a dog, we are commited to that dog's well being. We have some dogs for as long as a year or more before they are placed. The food and boarding alone for these dogs exceeds $3,000. Please do your share to insure that we are able to continue to save as many dogs as possible.
