Horse Rescue United, Inc. (HRU) is a Howell, New Jersey-based rescue that saves horses of all breeds from abandonment, abuse, neglect, and slaughter. We specialize in retraining and rehoming Standardbreds. Whenever possible, HRU purchases slaughter-bound horses from auction, and also assists owner surrenders before they end up in the wrong hands.
By adopting an HRU horse, you'll give a horse a second chance while making room for HRU to save another. Available to approved homes within an eight (8) hour drive of Howell, NJ OR to the Lexington, Kentucky area on minimum 60 day trial periods, HRU horses are kept up-to-date on medical, dental, and farrier needs. You do NOT need to own a farm to adopt (most of our adopters board elsewhere), and first-time horse owners with prior care knowledge and experience are welcome.
