Homeward Bound Rescue League - Canton Pet Shelter

HomewardBound Rescue League is a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue organization dedicated to finding happy healthy homes for our beloved rescued dogs and cats. We rescue, foster, and find permanent homes for our rescued friends. The fact that we are a no-kill organization and we take all breeds sets us apart from other rescue leagues and shelters. We started our rescue organization in 2006 and are very proud to say that within that time we have placed over 3,000 dogs and cats into safe and happy homes. Homeward Bound Rescue League is an entirely volunteer organization that embodies the sense of community by advocating humane and ethical principles.

Adoption Process

Applications received through internet or at meet & greet events held at Pet Supplies Plus in Canton, Michigan. Applications are pre-screened by the Homeward Bound Rescue League board for pre-approval. Once an application has been pre-approved the applicant’s information is forwarded to the foster parent/family of the specified pet. The foster parent/family will contact the applicant to conduct an additional screening and set-up a meeting between the potential adopter and the pet. At this in person meeting the final decision is made whether to allow the applicant to foster the pet for a specified period of time. Generally, the foster period is two weeks for adult dogs and one week for puppies. At the end of the foster period the applicant returns to PSP with the pet where a final interview takes place. Based on HBRL final approval, the applicant has the option to finalize the adoption or return the pet to HBRL at the final interview
