Homeward Bound was officially formed in 2003 by Gail Tucker; our director. We are an all volunteer, not for profit organization dedicated to the Pug breed. We want to give every unwanted Pug in Oklahoma and neighboring states a second chance. Our mission: Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome Pugs in a safe, loving furever home. We accept surrendered, unwanted, abandoned, ill, injured, elderly, alpha, all ages, all sizes and colors - any Pugs needing a home living in Oklahoma and all neighboring states. We NEVER turn a Pug away. For us, this is the essence of Pug rescue - to truly rescue Pugs. Upon receiving a Pug, we place them in Foster care with dedicated volunteers. Fosters are essential to any rescue. While our Pugs are in a foster home, they are evaluated for behavior, likes and dislikes, etc. Because many of our Pugs come from shelters, puppy mills and neglectful homes and never receive proper training. Our fosters are diligent to work with them on potty, leash and crate training. Most importantly, fosters help socialize them to other environments, dogs and people. Many dogs come through Homeward Bound with heartworms, elongated soft palates, eye problems, and many other health issues. Before our Pugs are adopted, they are spayed / neutered, receive all vaccines, heartworm tests and treat any health issues that we discover. We neither breed nor do we show pugs. Our mission differs from most breeders and show people for whom the primary focus is monetary and on conformation to the breed standard and competition. At Homeward Bound, we see to it that every Pug in need finds a loving home.
Submitting an adoption application is the first step in the adoption process. Our application is very thorough and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Be detailed in your answers, as it helps us match you with the appropriate pug for your family and lifestyle. The matching process is one that is taken very seriously and every effort is made to get to know you so that the placement will be the very best possible. If the application is not complete, it will NOT be processed. Most importantly, if you are not 100% sure that you want to adopt a rescue pug and are not ready, willing and able to adopt when your application is approved, PLEASE do not complete an application at this time. Please do not call to ask if a specific pug is available. We try to keep the website of available pugs updated, but there are adoptions daily and we may have several applications for the same pug. When your application is being processed you will be contacted personally. We will then go over the available Pugs and will be the best match for you according to the information you filled out on your app. PLEASE NOTE: The majority of communication regarding the adoption process will be done via e-mail. Should you not often review your e-mail or have access to email, please ask us to contact you by phone only. Homeward Bound pugs are not placed on a "first come, first served" basis. That instead they are matched up the needs of the pug and the desires and lifestyle of the adopting family. There is an ADOPTION FEE to adopt a pug and fees range from $200 to $350. Homeward Bound WILL NOT process your application if your current pets are not neutered or spayed, current on vaccinations AND on a monthly heartworm preventative. Homeward Bound WILL conduct a visit to my home before the adoption process will be complete. Homeward Bound does not adopt to homes with aggressive animals and that special consideration will be made when adopting to homes with dogs over 30 pounds on a case-by-case basis and that verification of temperament will be made during the home visit. Every pug with Homeward Bound Pug Rescue receives Veterinary office visits, needed shots/heartworm tests and we treat any other health concerns that we discover. Homeward Bound cannot in any way guarantee the health of the pugs in the rescue. Understand that if your pet is not spayed or neutered or are unwilling to have it done, do not continue the application process. We have these regulations in place for the safety and well being of our Pugs and do not want them to return to a bad environment of which they came to us from. We want them to live their lives happy, loved and safe.
