Homeless Animal Adoption League (HAAL) is a shelter exclusively for homeless or abandoned cats and kittens, conveniently located in Clifton, NJ. HAAL was originally formed as the East Orange Animal League in 1989 by citizens concerned about conditions in the East Orange Pound. The League was incorporated as the Homeless Animal Adoption League in 1995. When the East Orange pound closed, the League set up (what was meant to be) temporary residence in Bloomfield to find homes for the remaining East Orange cats. That "temporary" residence turned into a home for homeless, abandoned, and abused cats for 17+ years. In January 2018, we officially closed our Bloomfield location and opened our Clifton location, after 2 years of construction on the interior and exterior of the building.
