Helping Pawz is a foster based rescue that was founded in spring 2012 when the county animal shelter closed. It is a non-profit group comprised of volunteers that provide temporary homes for a wide variety of homeless animals. HP primarily accepts dogs and cats of all ages, but also cares for rabbits, ferrets, rats, and guinea pigs if a foster home has space at the time of need. Most of the animals in HP's care are strays, owner surrenders, or orphans, but some do come from euthanizing shelters when foster home space is available. Animals that come into the rescue are guaranteed care for the remainder of their lives. The goal is to adopt the animals into permanent homes. Prior to adoption, they are fully vetted which includes a basic check-up, deworming, age appropriate vaccinations, spay or neutering, heartworm testing, and microchipping. There are occasions when we don't have foster space to take in additional animals. In those instances, we attempt to use our network of contacts throughout the community and surrounding areas to find a safe haven for the animal(s) in need.
