The ARK Fostercare Program is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), no-kill rescue created for several purposes: providing foster care for canines and felines at shelters, educating and assisting with “free” litters within the community, and providing care for stray animals. ARK Fostercare hopes to increase the community’s awareness of several concerns. The first concern is that the statistics of animals “for free” are mostly the animals that end up dumped or neglected - emotionally or physically. Within this first concern, an ever-mounting problem that physical neglect usually includes the lack of these animals being neutered or spayed, producing yet another “for free” litter. The second concern is that the mothers of these unwanted litters are not spayed and many times have multiple litters before spaying them is addressed, if spaying is ever addressed.
All those who are interested in bringing a pet into their homes should consider adoption. The ARK's adoption goals are to provide loving, lifelong homes for its pets. Possible adopters must fill out an application, and pay an adoption fee which includes vaccinations, heartworm test and spay/neuter for all. Applications are approved based on information submitted by the applicants regarding past and present pets, vet records, and pet and family living arrangements. The applications are processed by an adoption committee that looks at the individual needs of each foster. The ARK does consider out of state adoptions. Requirements are a completed application, with pictures of home (inside and outside), a vet reference and a letter stating why you want this pet. Out of state adopters that are approved must provide appropriate traveling arrangements.
