Gsp Rescue Of Nj - Oak Ridge Pet Shelter

Gsp Rescue Of Nj

German Shorthaired Pointers (GSPs) are an energetic, loving, stubborn, but fiercely loyal breed of dogs often given up or abandoned for just these qualities. In many cases, people do not understand a GSP’s energy level or need for companionship before getting the dog. This can lead to surrender or abandonment. Luckily, we are an energetic, loving, stubborn, but fiercely loyal bunch of volunteers dedicated to finding forever homes for abandoned, neglected, abused and unwanted purebred GSPs. As part of our mission, we also educate the public about the breed and requirements of dog ownership in general. We also assist GSP owners as needed in order to prevent abandonment or surrender. Most members are current or past GSP owners; all share a love of this magnificent breed. The collective knowledge and dog experience in our group is a tremendous asset that differentiates us from many other rescue groups. It also enables our record of success. Our deep understanding of the breed helps us to match the right dog to the right family.

Adoption Process

Fill out an application. A volunteer will contact you (within approximately 5 working days) to review your information. Remember we are an all-volunteer organization so please be patient with our response time. The next steps are home visit and vet reference. (We cover all of NJ and most of NY, so since a home visit is required, we cannot adopt long distance. If you live out of the area and want a GSP, we can refer to the GSP rescue that covers your state.) We follow this protocol in an attempt to match the right GSP to the right family situation - considering the dog’s health, personality, behavior and other factors. An adoption fee is required. This donation goes towards future rescues in need. All of the dogs adopted through the GSP of NJ Rescue program are spayed/neutered before placement, no exceptions. They also go to their new homes fully vaccinated, heartworm checked and microchipped.
