Goofy Foot Dog Rescue - Huntingdon Pet Shelter

Goofy Foot Dog Rescue

Goofy Foot Dog Rescue is a foster based rescue out of West Tennessee. A surfing term like "goofy foot" in West TN? We are California transplants! Goofy foot means surfing "with your right foot forward"....and we strive to always put the right foot forward in all we do! We moved to TN from CA over 16 years ago and immediately began "rescuing," although we didn't know that's what we were doing. We just knew that stray dogs kept finding us and we would do whatever was necessary to get them vetted and into wonderful, loving homes. We soon ran out of relatives and friends to beg to take a dog so we began branching out. We soon realized that even though we have a massive overpopulation problem here in the south, the eastern states actually have a bit of a shortage of dogs in a rescue setting....so we began adopting our Southern Beauties out to the northeast! When you adopt a dog from Goofy Foot they come to you fully vetted. Fully vetted means they've been to the vet, had age appropriate shots (2 sets if the dog is a puppy), rabies vaccine if over 12 weeks, fecal, deworming, heartworm test if over 6 months, spay or neuter, grooming, flea/tick/heartworm prevention is current and any other vetting that the dog may require. Our low adoption fee of $495 covers all of this vetting AND transportation to you! Adoptions in the state of TN (near West TN) that do not require professional transportation are $275. Goofy Foot Dog Rescue consists of a husband, wife and two daughters along with several wonderful adoption coordinators, fosters, and volunteers that offer their homes and hearts to these dogs as a temporary stop on their way to their forever homes. We are grateful for our fosters, supporters, and adopters and we couldn't do this without all of you!

Adoption Process

1) The first step in the adoption process is choosing which dog(s) you are interested in! Click here to see a list of our adoptable dogs. Once you have found the dog you are interested in, submit an application with that dogs name on it. If you are interested in multiple dogs we have available, you can list all of their names on one application. Be very thorough on your application! The more thorough your application is, the greater chance you have at being selected for a phone interview. 2) Each application is reviewed by one of Goofy Foot Dog Rescue's adoption team members. Because most dogs receive multiple applications, we have to choose what we feel is the best application based on the needs of each dog. If your application is selected as a potential match for the dog(s) you applied for, you will receive a phone call from an adoption team member for an initial interview. 3) After the initial phone interview, if you are approved and you decide to move forward with adoption, the adoption team member will go over transportation options and how to pay the adoption fee. We primarily use Hearts, LLC,, a USDA licensed transportation company. They are an amazing husband and wife team who have safely delivered over 12,000 dogs. Every other week, Hearts, LLC transports to Lebanon, TN; Bulls Gap, TN; Harrisonburg, VA; Hagerstown, MD; Harrisburg, PA; Allentown, PA; Bedminster, NJ; Southington, CT; and Willington, CT. 4) To pay an adoption fee, we can send you a paypal invoice or you can call the payment directly into our vets office over the phone with a credit card. After the adoption fee is paid, the adoption team member will schedule your dog for transport. 5) Show up to the designated pick up location on transport day to pick up your new family member, and then go live happily ever after!
