Furever Home Dog Rescue (FHDR) is an all volunteer rescue group, saving puppies, young and adult dogs from overpopulated, high-kill shelters. We started the rescue in 2009 and I mostly work with a shelter in North Carolina that is overwhelmed with puppies and dogs. There is a volunteer transport that brings the dogs to New Jersey where my fosters and I meet them. Since we do not have a physical shelter in NJ, we place the pups in foster homes here in NJ until they are adopted. We have a wonderful group of foster families that are carefully screened before they become fosters. Using foster families to provide a temporary home to our pups is very beneficial to us, our adopters and our pups. Living in a home gives us good sense on their behavior, likes, dislikes, needs and personalities so we know what type of furever home is best for the pup. We are then able to give potential adopters information on the pup and choose families that best match the lifestyles of the pups. Recently, we also started working with shelters from the islands of Puerto Rico, St Maarten, Anguilla, Grand Cayman and St Eustatius. My adoption process is also very thorough where applicants fill out a detailed questionnaire and I contact relevant references, verify information, home visits or home photos and many other details before awarding a dog to a family. At Furever Home Dog Rescue, we thank you for considering the adoption of a rescue dog. We understand that you may have other rescue groups to choose from and that is good news for everyone. Why? This year alone, approximately 7 million pets will die in shelters across the US. The more rescue groups finding forever homes for these pups, collectively we can reduce that number of unnecessary deaths significantly.
