The Friends of Lord Stirling Stable (FLSS) started as an idea of some of the original Trustees and Offices whom all happened to ride together at Lord Stirling Stable on Thursday mornings. The founders' group included Janet Orbine, Betty Cohen, Gwen Bunker, Clare Sigafoos, and Kathy Moffitt. This small group of riders wanted to organize and run some special events at the stable. At a meeting with the Somerset County Freeholders, it was suggested that they start by organizing Family Fun Day and two other events . . . and right away the group kicked it up a notch and organized five events. We’ve been at it ever since. FLSS was formalized and received IRS designation as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in 1984. Over the years, in addition to running a number of activities, the organization has funded many projects at Lord Stirling Stable including the funding of a “pony pavilion” where pony rides are held; a sprinkler system to help keep the dust down in the indoor arena; supplementing the purchase of lesson horses; purchasing stall mats to reduce the cost of bedding; providing jumps for the rings and most recently new footing for the indoor arena. It’s been over 40 years of dedication by our all-volunteer group and we look forward to continuing our success!
