The Frances Halbrook Hensley Animal Shelter is a 501 (c) 3 Shelter located in Lexington, Tennessee. Established in 2016, this Shelter was the vision and legacy of the late Frances H. Hensley who was an avid animal lover. Mrs. Frances' love for animals didn't stop with her two little dogs. She thought of all abandoned and abused dogs and cats. She left her estate to build the animal shelter. It is the mission of the Frances Halbrook Hensley Animal Shelter to give abandoned and neglected animals in our community the care and love they desire while offering every opportunity possible to find the forever family they deserve.
1. Get to know the animals. Have a particular type of pet in mind? Check out our adoptable pets or come see us at the shelter to visit our furbabies. We encourage you to spend as much time as necessary to make the right choice for you and the pet. Our staff will provide as much background and behavioral information as available. Many of our animals are strays so we only know as much about them as we have observed in the shelter. You are more than welcome to visit more than once to ensure you are making the right decision. We do provide a private meet and greet room for potiential adopters and an outside play area for you and your other pets. We encourage a preliminary meeting before any decisions are made for compatibility. 2. Adoption application. Once you have decided on the right furry member for your family, take the next step and complete the Adoption Application. 3. Sign the contract. After your application has been approved, the director will review additional paperwork to complete the adoption process. This paperwork includes vaccination and medical history. You will then will be asked to sign a contract. Please read the contract carefully and ask questions to ensure you agree with the information. 4. Adoption fees. Our adoption fees are explained below. Fees includes spay/neuter and vaccinations. 5. Follow up. We want to ensure a "happy tail" for you and your new pet, so don't feel like you are on your own once the adoption is complete. We encourage you to contact us with any concerns or issues that arise. 6. Happy tails. Please send us updates and photos of your new furry family member. We love to see our animals in their new home.
