Adoption Process

We recommend you start the adoption process with a visit to the shelter and speaking with the staff about what you are looking for in a pet. Do you want a running companion or a couch buddy? Next, take a look at the available pets. You are welcome to visit with the pets outside of the their kennels. We have a large dog park and you are welcome to bring your current dog(s) to meet a potential new family member. Once you've picked out a new pet, the staff will help you fill out the adoption application and answer any questions you have. All adopters must be 21 years old or older to apply. Once you complete the application, the front desk staff will verify that (1) if you rent, it is okay with your landlord for you to have the new pet(s) and (2) if you have pets already, that they are up to date on their rabies vaccination through a licensed Vet. Other than those criteria, we are just working to make sure we make an appropriate match for your lifestyle. Often pets can go home the same day the application is turned in, as long as we can verify the above information and provided the pet is already spayed or neutered. If not, we can usually get the pet on the surgery schedule within one to two days. We cannot hold pets for more than 48 hours once the application has been turned in and approved. The adoption fee covers the spay/neuter of the pet, rabies vaccination, booster vaccination, microchip and heartworm test for dogs over 6 months of age and a feline leukemia test for cats.
