Faithful Friends Animal Rescue - Shelby Township Pet Shelter

Faithful Friends Animal Rescue

Faithful Friends Animal Rescue is a volunteer rescue group. We don't have a "shelter" and currently do NOT have an adoption program. Instead, we are a small rescue that has focused our efforts in two ways: The first - helping community cats ... cats that have been cast aside by owners to "live in the wild" and their offspring. We receive so many calls each week from the public asking for assistance to help the homeless cats in their neighborhoods. We: Help determine if cats are truly feral or just abandoned former house pets. Help network social cats to find new homes. Loan live traps to catch feral cats and then sponser the cost of spay/neutering of feral cats and getting them vaccinated. Work at finding placement for feral kittens who still can be socialized and adopted so they don't have to live in the "wild" for the rest of their lives. Coaching/tips of how to effectively manager a feral cat/colony. Secondly - by sponsoring dogs/cats that require emergency vetting while in the care of animal control. There are many times a dog or cat has been injured or is suffering from a condition that requires immediate attention. Many of our local cities do not have budgets (or have minimal budgets) for this type of situation so instead of letting the animal suffer until their owners can be located, we help by sponsoring a visit to the vet and necessary care to make them comfortable. Faithful Friends is a registered non-profit charity and we rely 100% on donations by the public. Donations to our rescue are tax-deductible.

Adoption Process

The first step in the adoption process begins with the completion of our adoption application. It does not obligate you to adopt but gives us the information we need to understand if your home would be a good fit for the animal you are interested in. If you currently own (or have recently owned) a pet, a Faithful Friends volunteer will contact your vet(s) to confirm your dog/cat is up to date on vaccines and has been spayed/netuered. Once an application is received and vet references confirmed, a FFAR volunteer will contact you to set up a time to meet the pet(s) you are interested in. Because our adoptable animals live in foster homes, these meet-n-greets are arranged around the volunteer's schedule as well as that of the potential adopter. The meet-n-greet may take place at your home, a neutral spot such as a petstore or the home of the foster parent. A home visit is required as part of our process. This means a FFAR volunteer will come to your home at some point during the adoption process. We do this for several reasons, the biggest reason being that we just want to make sure our foster dogs & cats aren't being placed in a potential harmful situation. In addition, our home visit is not an inspection of how well you clean but rather - to see your yard, meet your family and any other pets you have currently living in your home to make sure everyone will get along if the adoption were to proceed. The entire adoption process typically takes 2-5 days from the time the application is received, including meet-n-greet and home visit but it can vary depending on volunteer/applicant schedules.
