Claiborne Animal Shelter - New Tazewell Pet Shelter

Claiborne Animal Shelter

The Claiborne County Animal Control Board, Inc. 501c3 LLC was founded in 2008. With donated property, money was raised to build shelter. Construction of the shelter started in 2009. In 2010, the shelter was ready to open. With no funding for operations, the shelter was delayed in opening. The shelter was named in honor of the county commissioner, "Glenn W. Bowling Animal Center" who founded the project. In 2011, Gloria J. McPherson Spay & Neuter Clinic was started at the shelter's site. Through private donations, in 2012, the shelter was opened and was able to take in animals that had no home. In 2013, The Shelter hired a full time Veterinary Technician Shelter Manager. In 2017, through generous support, the facility was renamed the Glenn and Ann Shumate Bowling Animal Shelter.
