The Chula Vista Animal Care Facility ensures health and safety for animals and citizens in Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City and Lemon Grove.
Step 1: Adoption Requirements - Adding a pet to your family is a big decision. All animals require training and commitment. Some pets can live well into their teens and just like people, many may have special medical needs as they get older (medication, frequent check-ups, etc.) This should be considered before you decide to take on this trusted responsibility. Persons wishing to adopt a pet must: Complete the CVACF Animal Adoption application and bring to the shelter; Be at least 18 years of age; Have current and verifiable identification; Live where pets are allowed; All members of household must be present for adoption; If you are a current dog owner, you must bring your dog for on-site introduction. The Chula Vista Animal Care Facility reserves the right to deny adoptions in certain circumstances for cause. Adoption Fee - Dogs: $75 for dogs (except those that have been available for adoption for more than 60 days), $25 adoption fee for LTRC (long term residents), Senior adoption fee $35 (Dogs over 7 years of age). Fee Includes: Initial intake vaccines, Microchip, One-year license (CV residents only), Spay/Neuter surgery (required by law); Cats: $65 for cats (except those that have been available for adoption for more than 60 days), $25 adoption fee for LTRC (long term residents), Senior adoption fee $35 (Cats over 7 years of age). Fee Includes: Initial intake vaccines, Microchip, Spay/Neuter surgery (required by law); Rodents: $10; Birds/Poultry: $10; Reptiles: $10; Livestock: Actual Cost; Other, except livestock: $20. Step 2: View and visit your new friend! Step 3: Adoption Application. You are almost there. All new pet owners must complete and submit an adoption application for approval. Step 4: Congratulations! You are now the new owner of a loving friend. To get you started, the Animal Care facility provides dog and cat owners with a starter kit, including an adopter sample food bag from Science Diet.
