Camp Cocker Rescue - Sherman Oaks Pet Shelter

Camp Cocker Rescue

Camp Cocker Rescue is an animal rescue group with a focus on cocker spaniels in high kill shelters. Cockers as a breed are prone to chronic medical problems and often end up in shelters due to no fault of their own. Our mission is to take on dogs with health conditions that require vetting and costly medical procedures, get them the proper care and find them loving forever homes.

Adoption Process

Step 1 - The application: Our adoption process begins with an online adoption application. Step 2 - The phone interview. Step 3 - The home safety check. Step 4 - The adoption takes place! Step 5 - The adoption donation: We don't view an adoption as a purchase of a dog. We think every one of our dogs is priceless and worth far more than the donation you make when you adopt. We do depend on adoption donations to partially cover our costs, although they don't come close to covering all our expenses.. When you adopt from Camp Cocker, you are making an adoption donation that is in the spirit of supporting our rescue group as a whole! That means that your donation is not payment for your dog; it is a contribution that helps us care for the next shelter dog in need. Here is the recommended minimum donation by age of dog: Puppies (six months old or younger): $500, "Tweens" (seven months to one year old): $425, One year old and up: $350, Just ONE Dog International - South Korean Freedom Flyers: $500. For puppies that are too young to be spayed/neutered - the adoption does not take place until the puppy is altered at five to six months of age. Once an adopter is approved to adopt a puppy, they can foster the puppy and enter into a foster-to-adopt agreement that does not become an official adoption until the puppy is spayed/neutered. We rarely get puppies and generally when we do, they are most definitely not well bred. We urge all adopters to get pet insurance immediately because chances are good that any puppies we rescue, are going to face some sort of medical issues at some point in their lives. (this is the result of backyard breeding and the parents not being properly screened for health issues). Step 6 - The follow-up

Our mission, originally, was to end the continual cycle of reproduction and suffering of the cats/kittens living at a hoarder's property - one block over - on Leadwell Street. It was a daunting task but we believe they have all finally been spayed/neutered and given proper veterinary care. I rescued and removed over 78. As long as there are no more kittens being born at this location, I can b
