Cabarrus Pets Society - Concord Pet Shelter

Cabarrus Pets Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue organization, was established in 2002 to rescue rehabilitate, and re-home abandoned, abused, sick, and neglected animals in our community. As a foster home based, 100% volunteer managed organization we do not have a physical shelter. Each animal we rescue is placed in a loving foster home where they can begin to trust humans again. While in foster care, Cabarrus Pets Society provides all necessary medical treatments including spaying and neutering, vaccines, and surgery before finding them their well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. With no physical shelter, we operate primarily through adoption events in our community and online databases. Cabarrus Pets Society is dedicated to educating our community on responsible pet ownership including the importance of spaying and neutering, vaccinating, and the prevention of heart worm disease. We put animals first and we encourage everyone to “Adopt Don’t Shop”!

Adoption Process

Our adoption process starts with an application, which can be completed online or at community events. We consider application in the order in which they are received. One of our volunteers will review your application and contact you to ask any questions we might have about your application. If applicable, we will contact your landlord and all veterinarians used within the last 10 years. If your application is approved, the next step is to set up a meeting for you to get to know the pet you are interested in. We set up appointments at times that are mutually convenient for you, the pet's foster parent, and an adoption coordinator. We also reserve the right to perform a home visit for any adoption. During a home visit a Cabarrus Pets Society representative will come to your house to see where your new pet will live. Please note that Cabarrus Pets Society's policy does not allow families with children under 6 years of age to adopt puppies under the age of 6 months. The suitability of adult dogs is considered on a case by case basis. Obedience training is encouraged for every dog or puppy adoption and may be required for select adoptions. This policy is in place for the safety of both the animals and your children. Because we follow up on every adoption, we prefer adopters within a 75 mile radius of Concord, NC and they will be given priority over out of area applications. We will consider out of area applications on a case by case basis. We reserve the right to refuse any applicant, if in our judgement, the home environment is not compatible with the needs of the animal or if the animal is not suitable for the applicant.
