Our mission is to find the best possible homes for the animals in our care. We are a small rescue with its home based out of Seale, Alabama. We pull dogs and puppies from local kill shelters. We have them vetted, spayed or neutered, and fostered in a loving and nurturing home. When they are ready, our pets are privately transported to our satellite locations in New Jersey for adoption into loving homes.
All potential adopters are required to fill out an Adoption Questionnaire. Once your application is verified and approved, a representative will conduct a home visit. A home visit will not be scheduled until an application is completed, submitted and verified. Please note if you have a dog and are adopting another one we may require a meet and greet: We want to make sure your existing pet loves your new friend as much as you do. Meeting on neutral territory will make the selection and introduction process that much easier. Please note that meet and greets may not always be possible due to families choosing to pre-adopt before the puppies arrive in NJ. If you have cats at home, we will do our best to cat test for you but it is not always possible. All family members and/or roommates must meet the pet. Some small children are allergic to cats or dogs, but their parents are not aware of it yet. Some elderly family members can’t handle the size or activity level of some of our canine guests. Some animals get along perfectly with one person, yet may act aggressive toward another. Bringing everyone who will be a part of the family or the household is critical to the success of the adoption. Out of State Adopters: We do adopt to out-of-state residents, however, in-state applicants (New York & New Jersey) receive priority. If you live outside New York or New Jersey we will do our best to find a volunteer to conduct a home visit on our behalf. If a home visit cannot be completed, we cannot go any further with your application. You must come and meet the dog(s) you are interested in adopting and if you want to adopt, you will have to drive your new dog home with you. Bow Wows and Meows Pet Rescue does not conduct DNA tests on the dogs it adopts out. We use information provided by the shelters, veterinarians, and volunteers to give the best estimate to the dog’s breed and future size. As a result, we cannot guarantee the exact breed or future size of any dog in our care. We do our best to inform adopters about the potential dog breeds for each dog. Our Adoption Contract must be completed upon adoption, and there is an adoption fee of $425-$525 required to cover the cost of shelter pull fees, vetting, spay/neuter, and transportation from Alabama to New Jersey. We try to do right by every person who comes our way looking for a new family pet. But sometimes we have to do what is best for our pups. Our animals do not have a say in where they go; since we speak for those who have no voice, we must do it well. Everyone who wants to adopt an animal from a shelter or rescue group is special because they open their homes to those in need. But, while we try to meet the needs of everyone, our clients are the animals. They have no one else. We appreciate your understanding.
