Atlanta Weimaraner Club Rescue - Marietta Pet Shelter

Atlanta Weimaraner Club Rescue

Our Mission is to rescue, nurture and connect abandoned Weimaraners with forever homes… one gray dog at a time. We provide for the rescue, care, and adoption of lost, surrendered and homeless Weimaraners by working with Georgia shelters, other rescues and providing foster homes leading to forever homes! In addition, we provide public education on the breed and responsible dog ownership. On a more social note, we, offer Weimaraner owners and enthusiasts with a place to meet others that enjoy doing things with their Weimaraners. Our rescue program is run strictly on a volunteer basis and supported through adoption fees, fundraising and private donations. We do not have kennel facilities, nor do we receive financial help from the government. Please join this group of dedicated individuals who are the true heart of the organization by volunteering to help rescue our gray friends. We have a dynamic group that has come together to dedicate time and focus on rescuing dogs through friendship, fun and fellowship!

Adoption Process

Our Step-by-Step Adoption Process: 1. View the current list of available dogs. Do you see one that you think would be a good match for your home? 2. Take the “Are You Ready for a Weimaraner Rescue” quiz to find out if a Weimaraner is the right dog for you. 3. Fill out and submit an Adoption Application. The more information you give, the easier it is for us to suggest dogs that will be a good fit in your household. Remember that a particular dog may be being considered by other applicants and may not still be available when your application is approved. But also remember that we have new dogs coming into our program almost everyday. 4. Upon receipt of your application, an AWCR Rescue Agent will contact you to talk more about the type of dog that you are looking for and what we have that might be a good fit for your situation. Please note that we require that all of our dogs to be maintained as INDOOR DOGS. 5. AWCR will check vet references to insure that your current/previous dog was kept current on annual vetting, shots and monthly preventative. 6. If the dog is a good match, AWCR will arrange for a home visit and bring the dog (or possibly dogs) that we feel best fits the potential adopter’s lifestyle and situation. We take into account fencing situations, lifestyle situations, additional pets already living in the home and children when matching a dog to a potential adopter’s situation. (Note: Out-of-State adopters must be willing to fly (and rent a car to drive home) or drive to Atlanta to meet a dog. AWCR will NOT ship or provide transportation for Out-of-State adoptions. No exceptions!). 7. We reserve the right to decline a home that is not right for a Weimaraner. Remember….Weimaraners are a wonderful and loving breed to own, BUT…WEIMARANERS ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE! 8. Once the above requirements are met, an AWCR Rescue Agent will schedule to come out and perform a home inspection. 9. PLEASE NOTE OUR NEW POLICIES: To complete the adoption process, we require an Adoption Contract be signed and adoption fees paid PRIOR to taking possession of your new dog. A 30-day grace period is provided during which time your Weimaraner may be returned to AWCR for any reason and the adoption fee will be refunded minus $50 for application and transfer fees (the 30 days will begin when you pick up your dog). There will be absolutely no refunds after 30 days. 10. If for ANY reason after adopting a dog, the owner finds that the dog is not a good match or if they cannot keep the dog, the dog must be returned to the Atlanta Weimaraner Club Rescue, as stated in the Adoption Contract.
