It is the mission of the Yancey County Humane Society to provide shelter and care for homeless, injured and neglected animals through adoption, community outreach, retention services, and educational programs.
Owning a pet and giving it the appropriate care is an expensive undertaking. We want our adopters to be aware that there are ongoing preventative care costs that they will experience, such as flea and tick and heartworm prevention. We do not require a fenced in yard, but we do require a humane way of making sure a pet does not simply run at large once adopted. We will not, under any circumstances, adopt to anyone who is planning to chain a dog outside as a permanent means of confinement. We also will not adopt a cat to anyone who plans on declawing it. We reserve the right, for any animal adopted from us, to conduct a home visit.
