X-Mutts is not a 501(c)3 non-profit, but a bunch of individuals who save animals and find them new homes. California's central valley has some truly awful pounds, and it has some pounds that could be shelters but choose to kill healthy and treatable animals. Some of us advocate for shelter reform, some of us rescue, and some do both. When you adopt an X-Mutt you really are saving a life.
Adoption fees vary but cover spay/neuter and vaccinations. The application process - application form, phone interview, and when possible, home visit, help us place each pet in a "forever" home. We don't have many adoption returns, because we do our best to place each pet in a home that's a good fit. We're looking for good matches between people and pets, so we will always tell you about health and behavior issues. There's someone for every pet, there's a pet for every loving person, and we want to make good, permanent matches between pets and people.
