Adoption Process

If you see a dog that interests you on our website, fill out an online application immediately. The application process is free and your application is valid for 6 months. Completing the application does not obligate you to adopt. You may submit an application for pre-approval. If you think you might adopt a Wish Bone dog, but don't see a perfect fit, you may submit an application for pre-approval. Then, when you see a dog you're interested in, you can contact your Adoption Specialist and indicate your interest in a specific dog. Application processing time varies, but generally you should hear from our team within 72 hours. Your Adoption Specialist, a Wish Bone volunteer, will contact you as your application is being processed. Animals and prospective adopters meet by appointment after an adoption application is approved. Wish Bone is successful because of our volunteers. The adoption team works very hard to process applications quickly, but the process can be slowed down if those they contact do not return phone calls. Please be patient and respond kindly when our volunteer asks for more information or clarification. Our dogs are popular! Most of our dogs receive multiple applications. We look for the best match for each dog. We consider the personality traits, habits, and needs of the animal, and carefully evaluate how it might fit into the lifestyle of the prospective adopter. If you have any questions at any time in the application process, please email wbcrshelter@gmail.com and we will respond promptly. Telephone calls to our office cannot always be returned timely. We can't hold a dog for a potential adopter. Therefore, please do not submit an application for a specific dog if you are going on a vacation or business trip. We need to meet each of our adopters. In order to make certain we have a good match between dog and adopter, we need to have an in person meeting. We do not deliver or ship dogs. Please read the Adoption Policy and Adoption Agreement & Contract before completing an adoption application: If you are approved and your adoption meeting is successful, you will take your pet home that day! Each dog will have a collar, but you will need to bring a leash. For adoption fees, we prefer cash in order to avoid credit card fees; however, we can accept credit/debit card, or cashier's check/money order. Personal checks cannot be accepted.
