West Baton Rouge Parish Shelter And Animal Control

West Baton Rouge Parish Shelter and Animal Control is a department of West Baton Rouge Parish Council. As an Animal Control department, we are tasked with enforcing all parish and municipal ordinances concerning the keeping of animals within West Baton Rouge Parish, impounding any animals being kept in violation of those ordinances, and investigating animal cruelty complaints. As a shelter, we are tasked with doing everything we can to find positive outcomes for the neglected, unclaimed, and abandoned animals in our care. We do this through community outreach, social media outreach, volunteerism, and networking with rescues and adopters across the country. It is our sincere hope to build a trustworthy relationship with the members of our community. We strive to educate as many community members as possible on basic pet care and the importance of spay/neuter, in addition to the ordinances of this parish. We aim to provide comfort and basic medical care for the animals in our possession to the best of our ability. We ensure each animal that is adopted out through our shelter is either spayed or neutered, up to date on basic vaccinations, and has a microchip.

Adoption Process

There are multiple ways to begin the process of adopting one of our animals. The best way to view our adoptable animals is by accessing our Facebook or Instagram page via the buttons at the bottom of this page. You can see lots of photos of our adoptable animals on either of these pages. You can also call our main office number (225-336-2428) to inquire about a particular animal, its adoption status, and the adoption fee. Please note vaccinations and spaying/neutering of animals must be completed before the animal will be allowed to leave our shelter. If you are coming to adopt one of our animals, you can fill out an adoption application form ahead of time and bring it with you. You can also submit an adoption request via our online form.
