Wayne County Humane Society - Wooster Pet Shelter

Wayne County Humane Society

WCHS, Inc. is an independent non-profit animal shelter dedicated to: finding committed, permanent homes for companion animals in our community; measurably reducing companion animal overpopulation; educating and promoting humane values. Our Core Values: We will maintain a place of safety for companion animals in our community, providing quality veterinary care and spay/neuter services before placing them into permanent homes. We will not euthanize adoptable companion animals. We believe humane euthanasia is a last resort to end animals' suffering or to ensure public safety and welfare. We will not allow terminally sick or badly injured companion animals to die painful deaths. Our compassion for companion animals will not allow us to keep an animal endlessly in a cage without hope of release, nor will we release animals which we know are dangerous or diseased. We will play an active role in the prevention of cruelty to companion animals by nourishing the relationship between companion animals and humans through education and community outreach.

Adoption Process

1) Submit an online application or a printable application. Be sure to contact the shelter to verify the approval of your application by calling 330-262-0152 or stopping at our facility located at 1161 Mechanicsburg Road, Wooster, Ohio. We do our best to ensure that the pets we adopt are happy and healthy. Please be aware that since we have new animals arriving daily with no prior health history, we cannot guarantee the health of any animal adopted from WCHS. 2) Make arrangements to pick up your new pet from the shelter following the adoption approval. Congratulations on the new member of your household! 3) Make an appointment with your veterinarian for your new pet! We strongly recommend you take your new pet to your veterinarian for an evaluation as soon as possible. In fact, some of the local veterinarians offer a free wellness exam to pets adopted in the last 14 days. If a condition should develop which requires veterinarian intervention, you need to discuss with your vet the options, possible fees involved, if he/she has a payment plan, etc.

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue. We have many Lhasa Apsos that are currently in our Rescue Network and that need loving, responsible homes. The American Lhasa Club Rescue Network is a group of regional rescues that work within the The American Lhasa Apso Club Guidelines to find loving, responsible homes for Lhasas that for a myriad of reasons are homeless.
