Viva! Nm Rural Animal Rescue - Albuquerque Pet Shelter

Viva! NM Rural Animal Rescue is a small, volunteer-based animal rescue located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Established in 2012, we work throughout the state of New Mexico to help rural animal shelters lower their euthanasia rates. Our efforts are focused on responsibly re-homing pets, promoting spay and neuter, community education, networking with other rescues, and helping shelters achieve an online presence. Shelters are limited in kennel space, so we help to assist with other rescues that sponsor shelter pets in and out of state by pulling and temporary foster until transport can be arranged to these rescues. This opens kennel space so that fewer animals are euthanized and prevents the death of animals that have rescues wanting to help. We are a foster-based rescue, which means we do not have a facility location. All of our adoptable dogs reside in foster homes where they live as members of the family until they are adopted. Our foster families provide the love and attention that many of these dogs have never before experienced. Our adoptable dogs can be met via scheduled appointment or at any of our adoption events. Every dog deserves a second or third chance at a life with a family. We want the public to know the importance of having your pets spayed or neutered as hundreds of kittens puppies, and thousands of dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters every year.

Adoption Process

At Viva we want to find dogs their forever homes. All of our adoptions require a meet and greet visit, a home visit, and a trial adoption period of 10 days. We do these things because we want to find the best fit for our animals and our potential adopters. We aim to have no animals returned to us after they find their families by finding them the right fit first! If you are ready to start the application process, please fill out the form as accurately as possible. Please be aware that the dog you are initially interested in may not be your best match, or may already be pending adoption. If this happens, we will suggest others to you based on the information you provide here. Filling out the adoption application does not guarantee an adoption in any way. This is the first step towards a potential adoption with Viva.
