Ventura County Animal Services - Camarillo Animal Shelter - Camarillo Pet Shelter

Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) operates two shelters within the county. The large main shelter in Camarillo houses over 400 pets and the administrative offices. Our smaller facility in Simi Valley houses nearly 40 pets at a time. Each year, Ventura County Animal Services cares for more than 12,000 animals. Our goal is to reunite lost pets with their owners and find life-long homes for as many animals as possible, while providing proper care during their stay. Ventura County Animal Services provides contract services for eight cities within our community: Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Simi Valley and Ventura. VCAS enforces local ordinances and state laws within our service areas, including animal cruelty/neglect investigations, leash law compliance, rabies suppression efforts and providing medical care for sick and injured animals.

Adoption Process

Step 1. View Our Pets. Browse our adoptable animals online or from our iPhone/Android App. You can also visit our pets in-person at either shelter location in Camarillo and Simi Valley. Step 2. Complete The Meet Your Match Form. The application will assist us in helping you find a pet that meets your expectations and lifestyle. Step 3. Meet With An Adoption Counselor. When you find a pet that you would like to meet, you will speak with an Adoption Counselor who will review your application and help you decide which types of pets are right for you – including breed, age, temperament, etc. It is the department's policy that any person recorded to be the source of the animal's impound, that turns over a stray animal to this Department has the first option to adopt the animal when it becomes available for adoption. The finder must be present when the animal first becomes available for adoption, and if one or more persons wish to adopt the animal at that time, the finder has the right of first refusal. Adoption Discounts: 1) Any dog or cats who is 5 years or older can be adopted for half of the adoption fee. 2) Any human who is 55 years or older can adopt a dog or cat for half of the adoption fee. 3) Fee-waived dog or cat adoptions for Veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Only two forms of ID are accepted in order to receive a fee-waived dog or cat adoption under SB-245 (Pets For Vets Act Effetive January 1, 2020.) 1. A California Driver License with "VETERAN" printed on its face, or 2) A California ID Card with "VETERAN" printed on its face. For more information, visit www.vcas.us/PetsForVetsAct. If you do not have either of these forms of ID, VCAS will honor a half-priced adoption discount for Veterans who have any form of idenfication, including a DD124 or U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs card. These discounts do not guarantee the adoption of a shelter pet nor do they include a pet license fee if applicable. All interested parties must meet with an Adoption Counselor to make sure the best possible matches are made. 4. Paperwork & Agreement. Congratulations! You've found your next best friend! All that's needed is do a little paperwork and pay the Adoption Fee. The adoption fees for small animals (rabbits, hamsters, iguanas, guinea pigs, rats, etc.) vary depending on species.
