Adoption Process

All potential adopters must complete an adoption application. A potential adopter must be at least 21 years of age. All members of the household must be in favor of the potential adoption of the pet. Because adopting an animal is a family decision, please bring your entire family, including current resident dogs (if you are adopting a dog), to meet your potential companion. Please leave your resident cats safely at home. No pet will be adopted as a gift to a person not living with the applicant. The recipient of the pet must be interviewed. There will be NO surprises. Home inspections will be performed by TCHS at our discretion. TCHS charges an adoption fee for each animal adopted. The fees are $40 for cats and $100 for dogs. The adoption fees help cover the vet bills, and the animals care and upkeep while at the shelter. Foster homes have first consideration in adopting a pet so long as TCHS feels said placement is in the best interest of the pet. We reserve the right to refuse to adopt a pet or pets to any individual or family we feel is unsuitable for that pet. All adopters will be required to sign an Adoption Agreement.
