Adoption Process

Adoption procedure: Request and fill out the adoption application and return it to the Sanctuary. We check your references, including veterinary reference, review your application, and contact you by phone for an interview. All adopters must have a vet reference demonstrating an acceptable standard of care for present and past animals. If you are a first-time pet owner, we will work with you to be sure that an adopted dog gets good care and that you find a vet good with old dogs. Once you have decided on the dog you are interested in and your application is approved, we will arrange a meeting at our Adoption & Education Center in Cleveland if you haven't already met the dog at an adoption event. The final step is a home visit scheduled at a mutually convenient time. If approved, you can make arrangements to pick up your new best friend as soon as possible after the home visit. Adoption Fee (non refundable): $125. Ask us about our senior dogs for senior people adoption program.
